The most common type of bandage is the
gauze bandage, a simple woven or knit strip of material which can come in any number of widths and lengths. A
gauze bandage can be used for almost any bandage application, including holding a dressing in place.
When trying to staunch the flow of blood,
direct pressure is recommended. Applying rolled gauze is a convenient, fast and effective way to apply direct
pressure to an open wound.
